Away we go to the island of Puerto Rico………………

A very good friend of mine recently invited me to visit his home with him in Puerto Rico. We spent two days in this tropical paradise and I was amazed at the beauty of the island. Not only is the land incredibly scenic and magnificent but the people are some of the nicest I have meet. They took great pride in showing me all the treasures of their home. I would like to personally thank Alex and Orlando Falcon, as well as the whole Falcon family, for being such gracious hosts and welcoming me into their home. Thank you Orlando for being the driver and his brother Alex for being my personal tour guide for my quick but enjoyable visit. I hope to have the opportunity to visit again for a longer duration so I can experience more of this incredible paradise. Without further ado the photos………………….

The Big Apple, The City That Never Sleeps, The City So Nice They Named it Twice, Empire City, Gotham and The Capitol of The World! New York City has many names but the people that live there know it by only one………..Home. New York City boasts a population of 8,175,133 people living in an area of 305 square miles. The inhabitants hustle around the city at a breakneck pace single minded of purpose, just being there electrifies the senses. During the day shadows play between buildings as the sun dances across a breathtaking skyline. After dark light rises up from it’s various sources like serpents ascending up buildings, setting the stage for an epic tale of intrigue and suspense. A lucid mind altering dream-scape where one wonders in all of the brilliance of the liquid color that floods the streets in a city fitting of the name Gotham. Once visited, New York City spawns two tribes…….those who love it and those who hate it. If you find solace in the rush that is her racing pulse you can’t wait to return to the city and one day possibly make it your permanent home. But if you detest the carousel of chaos which is daily fare for New Yorker’s, then you can’t wait to get out and know exactly how a rat in a maze must feel.

I spent three days this past week in New York City just walking around, camera in hand and senses ablaze with all the fascination that comes from being there. I chose to edit the first set of images to create the effect of old tintypes. The look seemed to come natural to the photographs. After seeing the final results I felt the same feelings I had during my journey through the city. For the color images I decided on a gritty feel that would mimic the cities veneer and demeanor and bring the viewer deep through the lens of my minds eye. This continues my series of street/urban photography of the various places I travel. I hope you enjoy………………..

I know it has been a very long time since I have posted anything to my blog. I have been so busy lately that I have neglected my personal work and the posts to the blog. I am glad to say I finally have my head above water now and can finally get back to putting my work out there for you guys to enjoy. Recently I had some time to kill in Nashville, TN. It was a bit overcast but I enjoyed finding a few interesting views of Music City USA. I realized while out and about how much I miss shooting just for me…………..Enjoy!

I recently spent some time in The Bay Area (San Francisco) continuing to build my stock portfolio for a company in Southern California I have been working with since my return from Germany. They were fascinated with the photographs I produced during my Germany trip year before last and wanted to see other cities shot in the same style. I am looking forward to capturing more scenes of other cities for them over the next year. The trip also gave me the opportunity to visit with family and friends on the west coast which was a great perk. Here is a look at the streets of San Francisco as seen through my lens. Enjoy!

Here is a little look at my trip to Atlanta GA. to see my Fine Art Infrared Tree Series, which was recently purchased by Savannah College of Art and Design. They are currently hanging on the front of their design building at the Atlanta Campus. It was a thrill to see them printed so large and then placed in light-boxes. Atlanta is an amazing city, we took in some of the sights and had some great meals.

Ballyhack Golf Course ~ Roanoke, VA

I recently spent the afternoon at Ballyhack Golf Club photographing a tree. My client and her husband are members of this beautiful golf club and play there often. She wanted to surprise her husband with a gift and the tree on hole number 9 seemed to fit the bill. I used a special camera that has been modified to shoot in the infrared light spectrum. The camera’s CCD sensor replaces the use of infrared film. In the old days of infrared film and the use of an infrared filter, exposure times were very long. On a sunny day you may be looking at a 2 minute exposure. With the use of a digital camera, exposure times are now back in the arena of seconds and fractions of a second. The effect is quiet stunning! We drove all over the golf course and I must say the links course is spectacular. I was very pleased with the images I got and my clients were thrilled. The Vinton Wine and Food Festival~Featured Artist: Bob Cranwell

I was recently contacted by The Vinton Wine and Food Festival Committee and invited to be the featured artist for their event on May 15th, 2010. They told me they were familiar with my work and were interested in having me produce a photograph that would represent my hometown of Vinton, VA. We discussed several possible landmarks and decided on the town’s local clock. I am honored to be chosen as the featured artist for The Vinton Wine and Food Festival and to have the opportunity to capture a stunning image of the clock for the event. The shot you see here is so far my favorite one. The image will be for sale at the event along with some of my other work, so come on out and support the town of Vinton and yours truly. Remembering The Old Flour Mill~Jefferson Street in Roanoke, VA

I remember the Old Flour Mill on Jefferson Street! I happened to be driving by one day and saw that it was being demolished and could not help be drawn to beauty of the ruins. I went home and packed up my camera gear and headed back down to capture an image of the remains a few days before it was leveled. I shoot several different angles, but none seem to capture it’s beauty. Frustrated, I walked back to my car. I looked back one last time before turning the corner onto Reserve Ave. and there it was, the angle I wanted. By this time it was a bit dark so the exposure needed to be quit long. This was all a blessing in disguise because the long exposure allowed several cars to move through the shoot while the shutter was open adding some nice light trails to the shot. This just goes to show you that sometimes the powers that be know what they want even when you don’t. I recently had the image printed by Marco Fine Arts and am happy to say they are available for purchase. Contact me for print sizes and pricing.

WPPI 2010 Convention and Trade Show Featured Artist for Marco Fine Arts Inc.

Hey Kids! I am happy to announce that I have been chosen to represent Marco Fine Arts Inc. at the 2010 WPPI Convention and Trade Show in Las Vegas, NV. as the Marco Fine Arts featured artist! This is a great honor for me and I am so excited to have my fine art work shown during this amazing event.

First, a little about the work. I began the Infra-Red Tree Project over three years ago and spent a large amount of time traveling historic Highway 17 between South Carolina and Georgia searching for trees that were eventually captured using a modified Canon 20D digital SLR camera. The camera has been modified to capture light only in the infra-red spectrum and the effect is breathtaking. After 14 months of travel and weeks of processing in the digital dry darkroom, I had gathered enough photographs for my first series of trees for gallery exhibition. At this point I began searching for a print studio to handle the giclee printing of my images. I eventually came into contact with Justin Sillerman of Marco Fine Arts Inc. in Los Angeles, California who quickly became my representative at the print studio and who is now a close personal friend of mine. Justin handles all my print work and I cannot say enough great things about this fella! He is dedicated and will not rest until you are completely satisfied with your prints. We spent some time working out the best printing process and finally found a solution that showcased the Tree Series in the best possible style. Below you will see some of the tree photographs that have been selected to appear at the Marco Fine Arts booth during the 2010 WPPI Convention and Trade Show. The series has also been exhibited in Vero Beach, Florida at The Southeast Gallery of Photographic Art and many hang in private collections in Florida, California, and Virginia. The series is still available for purchased at Goodlooks and Bliss in Roanoke, VA. or by contacting me directly. I hope you enjoy viewing them as much as I enjoy making them and I welcome comments on these beautiful examples of nature’s most majestic creation…THE TREE!

I spent Christmas in Germany. I had the opportunity to visit Hamburg, Munich, Lübeck, and Berlin. Germany is truly an amazing place! The Food, The People, The Architecture, and of course The Beer! I had the most amazing time there and look forward to returning soon. Many thanks to my hosts Sven and Sabine Leidel, you guys made my trip a vonderful experience. It was tough to narrow down all the great images to a select few that captured the feel of my trip, but I think I got the best ones (at least my favorites) up online for you all. I hope you enjoy seeing the images I captured during my vacation.
